Customer Opinions

tripadvisorWe’ve received lovely feedback from our customers this year:

“Good selection of cakes”
We called in here for a coffee and a cake after looking in a few neighbouring cafes. This seemed to have the best cake selection for us. We ordered a bakewell slice and an apple pie and custard with a pot of tea and a coffee. The service was friendly and good. The bakewell slice was delicious and large and my husband enjoyed the apple pie. I was pleased to see the pot of tea also came with a pot of hot water so had 3 cups of tea and still left some in the pot! My husband also had a pot of water with his coffee and he was happy to water down his coffee to get extra cups. We sat by the window and looked at the castle. There is also a gift shop attached to the cafe which we looked round. We didn't try any of the other food but would be happy to recommend for a cake break.

“Good little café and shop”
A nice place to stop for coffee and cakes, staff very friendly and café clean.
The shop part is well stocked with clothing and pottery, a few souvenir items also available.
Well worth a visit and near the castle too.

“Second visit, just as good.”
We visited again for the second time whilst shopping in Caernarfon. We live locally. For just £10.00, we enjoyed a pot of tea for 2 - which came with an extra teabag and hot water and gave us 5 cups of nice quality tea; along with two sandwiches generously filled, on brown bread, cheese tomato and onion, which came with a fresh and tasty side salad, a small dish of ridge crisps and tasty dressings, honey & mustard and Caesar, sea salt and ground black pepper mills. We sat on the comfy leather sofas where we could watch TV if we wished but chose to catch up with the local newspapers.
Service friendly and efficient, we enjoyed our second lunch with you and highly recommend this to anyone in Caernarfon.

“DELICIOUS COFFEE!”
My husband and I live locally, therefore we pop in to Gray-Thomas quite often for a coffee and scone or lemon meringue. It really is comfy here (if you manage to time it just right and get the lovely armchairs in the window!), and you would be hard put to find another Café anywhere with such a magnificent view of a 12th century castle - literally on the doorstep. At busy times, the service can be a bit slow, but so what? Sit back, relax, and enjoy the view with your choice of excellent coffee and cake.

"On a bitterly cold Saturday in February we were looking for somewhere to warm up after exploring part of Caernarfon castle. Just opposite the main gatehouse is Gray-Thomas gift shop, which has a café on the side looking warm, friendly and inviting.

It didn't disappoint. Hot chocolate was hot, thick, creamy and chocolatey. That doesn't sound like much to ask but trust me, it's not what you tend to get! The Grand Milano Italian Cappucino was excellent, and I'm glad I asked for a double shot because it was hot, strong and delicious, just what a proper coffee should be.

Cakes, where should we start? Bara Brith, awesome! Carrot cake, heavenly! Lemon meringue, delicious! Diet, what diet?

Credit to the staff, service was quick, efficient and cheerful.
The only small negative point is the single toilet which developed a queue.
Thank you for making one South Wales couple very happy!"

"Great value and quality afternoon tea served by lovely people"
We popped into this restaurant for a late lunch but decided on the high tea for two which was £15.00. We had a choice of sandwiches, we chose roast beef which was really nice, then there was a scone each with jam and cream, a Welsh cake, a piece of fruit cake each and after we finished that lot the lady came out with a lovely piece of cheesecake each served with cream.
This was accompanied with limitless high quality tea.

Luckily we were not eating dinner until late that evening. When you think that you pay £3.00 for a sandwich from a supermarket this tea was great value for money at £7.50 each.

"Great Local Gift Store, Lovely Coffee Shop.”
Gray-Thomas stocks some excellent gift items and supports local Artists, including our very own Josie Russell (Google this exceptional young Lady)

They have recently opened a Coffee Shop. I thought, not another one (we have quite a lot) but to be fair it is quite good. Give them a try, you will really enjoy your visit.

“Super Café!”
Friendly staff, reasonably priced so great value for money, fresh and generously filled sandwiches, delicious cakes, tasty hot coffee and right opposite the castle gateway with pleasant views from every table. Sofas if you want to relax. This will be a regular lunch place for us in future. Good luck to this fairly new venture in an old established local business.

“Great food, great service which went the extra mile”
This is a fairly new café set up in a Gift Shop in Caernarvon which we visited on an extremely hot day in June 2014. There was only one other couple in the café at the time, so the service was quick, efficient and friendly, in spite of the waitress obviously feeling the heat behind the counter. The pot of tea and refreshments were excellent. The café was really clean and comfy, with a great view of Caernarvon castle and the square, where, when we went, there was music and a roundabout and stalls. Another very nice and welcome touch was another, male waiter, seeing we were hot sitting by the window, produced a fan, which had been working elsewhere in the café, and put it close to us, which was most welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit there.
